Up until finding this life changing opportunity, I can not say that life was too glamorous. I spent six years living in the beautiful Hawaiian Islands, only to be dead broke and working 65- 75 hours per week. To many living in Hawaii would be a dream, to me there was not enough hours in the day to enjoy what my environment had to offer. I graduated college, received three bachelors degrees magna cum laude. Upon graduation I considered myself well equipped to lead a great life with many successes sure to come.

I had landed a dream job, with a great commission and great benefits. The sky was the limit… Right??? Wrong! I worked 65+ hours a week only to find that my bonuses were decreased with every promotion and the stability I sought was diminishing with our ever-changing economic climate. I wasn't going to give up so, I went out searching for another-better job. Like you would suspect, I found one. I became a manager of a very prominent prosperous restaurant chain. My salary increased as did my bonus potential. Finally living the American dream… No not so much. Now I was working 75- 80 hours a week, not only was I dead tired but still dead broke. Ignorant as I was I kept at it for another 2 years… Then one day as I was sitting in a corporate meeting, when my regional manager said to me "Corey, we know that you have been working hard for us and you have not had a vacation in over a year, so if you want, why don't you take 3 or 4 days off for yourself in the next couple weeks." That my friends was the straw that broke the camels back! I was done! At that exact moment I fired my boss. I was not sure what I was going to do, but what I was sure of was that I was done with Corporate America.

My true desire was to escape the rat race and achieve time, freedom, wealth, and eventually have a family. There are hundreds of different businesses you can consider starting, and each has its own set of pros and cons. The biggest roadblock to starting or buying a business is that they require a considerable up-front cash investment. In addition to the large investment, the time commitment you must make when starting a business can ultimately turn out to be be far greater than what you have experienced in any job, and the return is not necessarily worth the extra time or the financial risk.

Let's take a look at some of your options for starting your own business:

Option - Buying a Franchise: You could buy a franchise such as McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, Subway, or Dominos Pizza, but you may find they have many BARRIERS TO ENTRY. You will need to make a large upfront cash investment (average start-up cost between supplies, location, etc - can fall between $400,000 to $1 million), and in the end, what you are really buying yourself is 90-hour-a-week job. You are going to be stuck in one location all the time, and you will have to be there everyday to oversee the operation. You are not going to increase your time freedom.

With a franchise, you are also going to be required to pay royalty fees for the life of your business. These fees are in addition to all of your operating expenses, and in many cases, they can prevent you from being profitable.
